God I’m tired! It’s been three intense days before and after the final of The Gold Face 2017 and I am only starting to catch up with sleep but before heading to bed here is a small highlight of what I lived during that modeling competition.
The first contact
I first met the candidates one month earlier during their first catwalk and makeup training with the Gold Models trainers at the gym of the Hennessy Park Hotel. They were a little shy, in awe or even completely lost for some. I only got to spend time with the girls on that day as a short makeup course was scheduled for them but being completely honest we laughed more than we did makeup, not the kind of big impression you want to make… Anyway this was only a reminder to them to enjoy the experience and always empower each other instead of competing against each other.
Many of them were struggling with their walk and I offered Laura, the director of the agency, to help them with their walk and she accepted. I was super happy as there is only one thing I was missing in pageants and it is the training part. I quickly met the candidates in between their fittings at Body & Soul in Ebene and gave them small tips on how to improve their walk. One week later we met in a gym at Rose-Hill with most of the candidates to work on their walk and posture for 2 hours. This time we worked harder, there was a lot of practice. Everyone had some tips and personal coaching. The mood was very friendly and healthy I’d say.
On Friday 6th I asked to join the rehearsals at Backstage and it was still fun to be there but you could feel some more pressure as the final was approaching. Some candidates seemed to walk a lot better while others really seemed to struggle with their walk and especially with their new shoes. Time being short we couldn’t do much about it but remind them some of the earlier tips. A flawless walk requires long hours of training and you can’t really do that with 20 candidates but I was pretty happy not having any disastrous walk. As I explained to the candidates, for the time being it was too late and all they could do was to have fun.
The D day
I had booking early in the morning, one of my assistants couldn’t stay the whole afternoon for the makeup and all that contributed to make me a bit nervous as I had a total of 26 people to do on that day. We started the makeup while Steeves Ramiah started the hair of the female candidates at Hair Club and went to finish the whole look at the Hennessy.
20 candidates, 1 makeup artist, 2 assistants, 2 hair stylists, a photographer and a few hostesses all together into the small room of the Hennessy, with minimum light, the candidates playing games with one another, God that was chaos. I nearly lost if at this point and I was like Okkkk Hans focus, breath in and breath out…
By 7.45 pm everyone was in the conference room, I had a quick shower and ran to the conference room with blotting paper, lip gloss and tissue so that the candidates could do touch up. While waiting for the show to start I made a quick speech on how proud I am of how they all looked their best and that the most important was to have fun, forget training and forget all we’ve said, just have fun.
The results were announced and after a quick bite and drink during the cocktail, the winners, Tania and Thierry, Anne Celine of Gold Models, Donné Le Grange of Ice Genetics Management, the photographer and I had to meet for a briefing on the photo shoot scheduled early in the morning the following day. I was a bit intimidated by Donné, and stayed quiet throughout the whole briefing. I went home, organized my stuff and went to bed knowing that I wouldn’t get enough sleep.
We were back at the Hennessy Park Hotel at 7.35 am for hair and makeup, everyone was EXAUSTED! Trust me at this point I really had to be devoted to my job and love the Gold team to be there. While Tania seemed a little more lost than Thierry in all this she photographed super well and I was amazed by her shots. The mood was pretty much of a fun one on that day and Donné showed a super approachable attitude and I even mentioned to her that she didn’t look like the main character of the Devil Wears Prada, today, and we just laughed. I left by 11 am approximately and here was the end of my adventure with the gold faces 2017 and I loved every moment.
Thank you Gold Models for having me, it’s always blessing to know and work with your golden team/family.
