The past week I had very dry skin, a longer beard than usual, and my hair (or whatever is left of my hair cause I’m getting bald) really needed to be trimmed. I hate how I look when I'm like that, I feel older, my face looks chubbier and I just don’t love my looks. Shaving and taking care of my skin is just magic psychologically. It’s a quick reminder to myself that I deserve to enjoy quality time and that I can look like the best version of myself. Waking up this morning I decided to step up my game and practice some self-love with some yoga, shave and do my skin care routine. We will skip the yoga and shaving part and talk on how I take care of my skin.
I have a combination and sensitive skin which means that my skin will get very dry or very oily sometimes, with winter it tends to get very dry and small patches of dead skin appear on my T zone and around my nose. Should I forget to apply moisturizer one morning, I would feel very uncomfortable as these dead skins would show a lot and unless I have a very hydrating facial, this problem usually continues. I didn’t go for a facial today, I went natural all the way or 99% at least with ingredients that we have at home.
I learned how to make this scrub with my best friend 4 years ago, the yummiest scrub as she names it, and it really helps me to get rid of all the dead skin.
Note: Try to be gentle while applying it to your face and lips in circular motion and clean using a hot towel.
I usually use a face mask from Thalgo but couldn’t find it today arrgh. Motivated as I was I head on to YouTube and looked for a DIY face mask recipe and found one with only avocado and honey and a second one with avocado and banana and a third one with multiple ingredients namely banana, yogurt, clay, etc… and. As I didn’t have clay I went for a mix of the first and second recipe as I mixed a small banana with half an avocado and a tea spoon of honey. I’ve let the fridge for 10 minutes.
Note: Apply to your face and let it set for 20 minutes. Clean using warm water.
I used half of an avocado and a small banana and I had enough face mask for my mum and I plus for one extra person plus half left. I saved the second half left for a smoothie for 2 people that I made with random ingredients:
A teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 plain yogurt (no sugar)
2 spoons of oats
2 tea spoons of honey
I think it was the best smoothie I ever had, it felt like Ice cream.
I used “Thalgo Source Marine” all over my face to moisturize - a pea sized amount. I don’t usually use this moisturizer every day as its super hydrating and can make my skin a bit oily. But it’s amazing for winter when my skin tends to be dryer. i also applied some coconut oil on my lips as a lip balm.
I used to blame the lack of money or time for not pampering myself, but that didn’t even cost a hundred rupees to make (excluding the smoothie) and that one hour I took for myself is going to impact positively the time I will spend with others as I will be more positive and open-minded.
Happiness starts with self-love.
